A wet afternoon meeting for the Manchester derby, in front of a record-breaking attendance of 43,615 for a Man United Women's Super League game. Man United took the lead in the 21st minute following handled ball in the penalty area, however Manchester City soon took control of the game, despite playing with only 10 for the last 15 minutes.
Katie Zelem Manchester United captain, scored from the penalty spot following a hand ball from City defender Alex Greenwood, blocking a shot from Malard.
However, city came back in quick succession Jill Roord scoring and then Lauren Hemp with a sublime finish within two minutes of each other. Manchester City went into the half time break 2-1 up.
City soon gained a third after Khadjia Shaw, put pressure on Man United's goalkeeper Mary Earp's clearance. United were granted a chance at getting back into the game when Laia Aleixandri was sent off for a second bookable offence, however United could not find a response, against the ongoing dominant City side.
This victory for Manchester City moves them to third in the Women's Super League table, 6 points below leaders Chelsea, United sit in fourth place only one point behind Manchester City.
